Ridge on Cargo: "We're All in This Together"

At the Cargo Security Summit in Washington, DC on Thursday, Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge explained that the security of supply chains and cargo currently depends on the various participants in those supply chains.

Ridge remarked that the "private sector has a critically important role to play in this all-hands effort. We need partners in the private sector that will stand up and be counted as any regular citizen, partners that take an active, forward-leaning view of security at all times."

Ridge indicated that his concern stemmed from Al-Qaeda's "reiterated goal...about the United States, is to undermine the economy."

20,000 cargo containers enter the US every day, according the the DHS.
